Notes for the Genus:

Muiria

This monospecific genus is restricted to a small saline area in the Little Karoo in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Muiria is unlike other mesembs in that the leaves are entirely fused with no discernible juncture. The plant is covered with long hairs. The white flowers emerge in summer, shortly after which the plants turn yellow and develop a white, withered sheath. Muiria is generally considered somewhat difficult to grow. It prefers a heavy soil mixed with grit and a large pot for its extensive root system. Water sparingly and mist at all times, reducing the amount of water during the dormant period. The plants are propagated by seed.
