Notes for the Genus:

Phyllobolus

The genus Phyllobolus is widespread from southern Namibia across the Western, Eastern, and Northern Cape Provinces and the Free State of South Africa. Most species of Phyllobolus have conspicuous water cells much like Mesembryanthemum. They are winter-growing caudiciforms and are deciduous, even shedding stems, in summer. They should be kept completely dry during their inactive phase. The plants are propagated by seed or division. Following Hartmann (2002), the genus Sphalmanthus is incorporated herein.
