Notes for the Genus:
Stomatium
The genus Stomatium occurs in three east-west swaths across the South African interior. Superficially the plants can resemble Faucaria except that the leaves are covered with tiny bumps. The margins of the leaves are also toothed. The highly scented white or yellow flowers appear in the spring and open at mid-day and close at night. The plants are active in the summer and should be kept somewhat dry in the winter. They are hardy, tolerating cold and heat and soil conditions ranging from sandy to heavy. Full sun enriches their purplish tints. They are propagated by seed and cuttings.
