Cultivation Notes: Conophytum are winter growers and should be watered during their active phase in the autumn and winter, though care should be taken not to over water them as the bodies may split or rot; during the spring and summer, they should be shaded and misted occasionally. Conos prefer an eastern exposure with morning brightness and some shade in the afternoon. The right balance of moist shade (after all, many conos inhabit shady crevices in the wild) and warm sunlight is important for keeping the plants happy and bringing out their color. Sphaeroids prefer well-drained, sandy soil with some clay and humus. There is no need to fertilize them as this may lead to leggy, misshapen plants. Plants are propagated by seed and cuttings.
